Is probably the question we hear most.
Quickly followed by: When are the crowds the lowest?
We can tell you the most Magical times of the year, when Disney is peak Disney. But as to the crowds… well, that’s all relative, as you’ll see below.
If you're planning a Walt Disney World vacation, one of the first decisions you'll need to make is when to go.
If you ask us, there is no bad time to go to Disney World, some times of year are definitely easier on your schedule, your patience, and your wallet than others. Weather, school holidays, crowd levels, and special events can all make a difference.
But Disney World is always a good idea. 😊
January and February: Cooler Weather and Smaller Crowds
If you don't mind a chilly morning or evening, January and February can be wonderful months to visit.
Temperatures are generally comfortable for walking around the parks, and crowds may be lighter during certain weeks after the holiday rush.
There are exceptions. Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, Presidents' Day weekend, and runDisney events can bring additional visitors.
You may also encounter shorter park hours or attractions temporarily closed for refurbishment.
Best for: Travelers with flexible schedules who prefer cooler weather and potentially smaller crowds.
March and April: Beautiful Weather, Busy Parks
Spring brings warm afternoons and generally pleasant evenings, making it a lovely time to visit Central Florida.
But there's a catch: spring break.
School vacation schedules vary, so busy periods can stretch across several weeks. Easter can also bring large crowds.
On the plus side, EPCOT's International Flower & Garden Festival offers colorful displays, outdoor kitchens, and seasonal entertainment.
Best for: Families who enjoy spring weather and don't mind busier parks.
May and Early June: A Nice Balance
May can be an overlooked time to visit, particularly during the first half of the month.
Spring break crowds have settled down, and many schools haven't finished for summer.
Temperatures are climbing, though, and afternoon thunderstorms become more common.
By early June, summer vacation crowds begin arriving.
Best for: Travelers looking for warmer weather without the busy summer crowds.
July and August: Summer Heat and School Vacations
For many families, summer is the most practical time to visit because the kids are out of school.
The trade-off is Florida's heat and humidity.
Expect hot afternoons, frequent thunderstorms, and plenty of opportunities to appreciate air-conditioned attractions.
July can be busy, particularly around Independence Day. Crowds may ease later in August as schools reopen.
But don’t let the heat scare you away; planning afternoon pool breaks can make summer visits much more enjoyable and getting strategic about indoor and outdoor attractions can make a huge difference.
Best for: Families working around school calendars and travelers who enjoy resort pools.
September and October: Potential Savings and Halloween Fun
September has historically been one of the better months for avoiding large crowds.
With schools back in session, some weeks can be quieter. Disney also frequently offers resort promotions during late summer and early fall.
However, September is still hot, humid, and part of hurricane season.
And while Disney starts celebrating Halloween in August, September and October bring seasonal celebrations, including Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party on select nights.
Best for: Travelers seeking potential savings or seasonal Halloween experiences.
November and December: Disney at the Holidays
Visiting Walt Disney World during the holidays feels special.
The parks and resorts are decorated, limited entertainment fills the calendar, and EPCOT celebrates holiday traditions from around the world.
Early November and portions of early December can be appealing before the busiest holiday travel periods.
Thanksgiving week and Christmas through New Year's are typically among the most crowded times of year.
Don’t forget – all these amazing holiday parties are specially ticketed events, so you’ll need to plan accordingly.
Best for: Families who love holiday decorations and seasonal entertainment.
When Is Disney World the Most Affordable?
If your main concern is cost, pay close attention to your travel dates.
Disney uses date-based ticket pricing, and resort rates can vary throughout the year.
Historically, select weeks in January, February, August, and September have offered opportunities for lower prices. However, holidays, promotions, and special events can change things.
Sometimes adjusting your arrival date by just a few days can make a noticeable difference in your vacation budget.
So, When Should You Go?
For comfortable weather and potentially manageable crowds, certain weeks in late January, February, and May are worth considering.
For possible savings, late August and September may be appealing. If seasonal celebrations matter, fall and the Christmas season offer experiences you won't find year-round.
Of course, no one can guarantee low crowds or perfect weather, no matter when you visit. But we’re pretty sure you’ll have an amazing time!
